TestDrive policies

Welcome to the HP TestDrive Program. The TestDrive program is here to enable you to get direct access via the internet to HP's high end servers. We thank you for your time trying out our equipment and encourage suggestions. If you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

Rules of the program

The following are disallowed in the TestDrive Program:

  1. You may not participate in distributed computing efforts such as, but not limited to, Seti@home and distributed.net using TestDrive systems.
  2. You may not run Game servers or bots such as, but not limited to, MUD and Quake servers on TestDrive systems.
  3. You may not run Chat servers or bots such as, but not limited to, IRC servers and eggdrop on TestDrive systems.
  4. You may not run peer-to-peer file sharing systems such as, but not limited to, OpenNap and Gnutella on TestDrive systems.
  5. You may not run cracking utilities such as, but not limited to, root kits and password crackers on TestDrive systems.
  6. You may not upload copyrighted materials such as, but not limited to, MP3s and commercial software to your account without the permission of the copyright holder.
  7. You may not upload pornographic materials such as, but not limited to, pornographic image files to your TestDrive account.
  8. You may not participate in any illegal activities using your TestDrive account or TestDrive systems.

Failure to comply with these rules will result in the immediate termination of your account. Additional measures may be taken as necessary. HP reserves the right to make changes to this policy at any time, without notification.

The following are discouraged in the TestDrive Program:

  1. Long running, CPU-bound processes.
  2. Use of excessive amounts of disk space or memory.
  3. Use of systems for benchmarking purposes.

TestDrive is a community resource. As such, it is shared by all its users. When one user consumes all of a particular resource on a system, that resource is not available for others to use as well. If you plan on running CPU-bound processes for more than an hour, please renice them so that others can use the CPU(s) as well. TestDrive is also not intended as an ISP/ASP environment. User accounts are not backed up and cannot be restored. We do not guarantee the availability of files you have created or uploaded. As TestDrive is a shared resource, the use of TestDrive systems for benchmarking purposes is inappropriate. If you are interested in benchmarking or in dedicated access to systems, please contact the DSPP Partner Program to use a dedicated system behind a firewall or to visit one of HP's Porting Centers.

General usage

You may not establish outbound connections from TestDrive systems or otherwise attempt to bypass the TestDrive firewall. When you connect to a TestDrive system to upload files, they are automatically stored in your home directory on an NFS-mounted drive, and are as such available for your use on almost all TestDrive systems. For fast local acess to your files on individual systems, you may want to copy them to the /tmp directory on the local machine.
